Week VII Highlights: The Ant Lions take their shot at
El Sucko, Red
Wings get healthy quick, yellow elbow pad guy plays in
net, manages to
injure none.

1. El Sucko- Keep cruisin along, Cho scored the goal
of the year thus
far, weaving through the best defense in the league.

2. Red Wings- A nice recovery from a heartbreaking
defeat the week
before, Roscetti reestablishes his goal scoring
prowess, but will he
dissappear for a month again?

3. Ant Lions- An exciting game, you may have fared
better with Mark and
Kevin around. But then again, you may have fared
worse with if someone
else had shown up...

4. Little Caesers- Shand is the best player in the
league right now.
If only he had some help, at least not the babies on
his team who won't
even play goal.

5. B. School- The best I've seen them play this
season, granted it was
against an undermanned scrub team.

6. Team Scrub- Hurtling uncontrollably toward last
place, and it
doesn't get any easier this week vs. the Red Wings.

7. Outkasts- If Towner would show up at least they
could be
competitive.

8. Two unnamed players who refused to play goalie.
Brats.

Week VIII Highlights: A clinic put on by El Sucko, Ant
Lions make it
infighting, Krishna issues Emancipation Proclamation
to Scrubs (with "4
scores and 7 bruised egos")...

1. El Sucko- The first 5 minutes of their game was
disgusting: 5 goals,
no shots allowed, and B. School was even playing well.

2. Red Wings- A strong effort against a young team,
although Al's
plastic blade just won't cut it.

3. Ant Lions- Beating up on the helpless Outkasts, the
Winegarden line
is an up and coming force.

4. Little Caesers- bye bye week. Let's hope certain
members matured
over the break.

5. B. School- I felt sorry for them against El Sucko,
they actually
looked pretty decent, but still got their collective
asses handed to
them.

6. Team Scrub- The Simonator with an impressive first
stint in net, but
not nearly enough. Joe "red shin guards" is an
underrated star on this
team.

7. Outkasts- On Turkey day will give thanks that Team
Scrub is in the
league.

8. My problematic lower back- What gives, it's not
like I'm Rick
Miller's
age.

Weekly Top 5 (another new segment)
Top 5 Best Players in the League Right Now

1. Shand- It's close at the top, but leadership and
vision with the
ball put him ahead of...

2. Cho- Quickest hands in the league, plays at 1/4
speed most of the
time, and still dominates.

3. Jamie Evans- Also appears to play just hard enough
to tool
everyone. Hardest shot in the league, but not the
most accurate.

4. Chris Shih- Granted, the defense in front of him is
stifling, but he
plays angles better than anyone.

5. Charlie Schaefer- Devastating spin move instills
fear in defenses
every
time he has the ball, but needs to translate it into
goals and assists.

Honorable mention- George Bowker, a solid two way
player

Subject: End of Season Power Poll

Last Week Highlights: Seasoned veteran Red Wings shift
gears at the
right
time, Ant Lions rescue defeat from the jaws of
victory.

1. The Mighty Mighty Red Wings- When they're good,
they're really good,
but let's not forget how bad they looked 3 weeks ago.
Let's hope they
play like they did Sunday during the playoffs.

2. Little Caesers- Played in the game of the year with
the Red Wings, a
6-5
OT loss. An exciting and debilitating game for both
sides. For the
playoffs, if Glotz and the others show up and Shand
continues to be
Shand I
have to consider Caesers at least cofavorite.

3. El Guapo- Loss of Evans hurts tremendously, no
longer carry the aura
of invincibility, as evidenced by allowing 7 goals to
subless Red
Wings.
I'm sure the defense will shore (and sober) up for the
playoffs, but
will
it be enough???

4. B. School- Manage to stumble to victory over Ant
Lions. This team
is
better than people give them credit for, but it's
doubtful they can
ascend to the IM throne.

5. Ant Lions- Game offers microcosm of season, bursts
of stellar play
followed by unexplainable total collapse. Absense of
veteran Miller
certainly hurts at crunch time. Somehow managing to
do less and less
with
more talent, hopefully you can pull a (grumble
grumble) UNC in the
tournament.

6. Outkasts- Ascend to 6 seed with the untimely demise
of Team Scrub.
Now you guys have the task of recruiting unwitting
freshman to serve as
IM whipping boys next year.

7. Team Scrub- AK sings, I don't want no scrubs,
scrubs are the boys
who
won't get no love from me, bailing on our two bit
league, in our time
of
need, maybe next year we'll see...

End of Season Awards:

Hart Trophy (MVP)
Finalists- Shand, Cho, Shih
Winner- Shand. Hands down, does more for his team than
anyone else out
there, most well rounded player in the league.

Norris Trophy (Top D)
Finalists- Cho, Shand, Evans, Botwick
Winner- Cho. Seemingly effortlessly, funnels everyone
to the corners,
really tough to get around. Plus, once he takes it
away he skates down
and scores himself. Honorable mention to Botwick, who
lacks the
offensive prowess, but is widely regarded by all
forwards as the most
pain-in-the-ass defenseman to play against.

Vezina Trophy (Top Goalie)
Finalists- Shih, Towner, Johnny from NY
Winner- Shih, tremendous at cutting down angles, works
well with his
defensemen to limit offensive options, and knows my
shooting
tendencies,
thus robbing me of far too many goals.

Calder Trophy (Rookie)
Finalists- Billy, Tony, Chris McHugh, Joe Crozier
Winner- McHugh, the other three have played admirably
and showed some
good talent, but none has been as influential as
McHugh in net for
Caesers.

Selke Trophy (Top defensive Forward)
Finalists- Charlie, Justin, Billy
Winner- None, these three certainly use their speed to
catch slow pokes
from behind, but none has impressed me to the point
where I feel an
award
is warrented. Hell, it's IM's, it's not like you have
checking lines.

Lady Byng (Most Gentlemanly)
Finalists- George Bowker, Justin, Hervey
Winner- Bowker, even when he takes that swinging two
handed slash, you
can't help but tell him to have a nice day.

Lady Dung (Least Gentlemanly)
Finalists- Mattieu (Frenchy) Kemp, Botwick, Yellow
Elbow Pad Guy
Winner- YEPG, in spite of his shedding of the pads,
and the
coincidental
decrease in injuries, too many first semester bruises
to forget.

Playoffs soon, let's get ready to rumble.

Well, another season has come to a close, and El Guapo
has ended the
year
on top again. The final game was well-fought and
exciting. Both teams
had to overcome adversity, El Guapo missing Evans and
having nine
skaters, which took court time away from their stars.
Little Ceasers
were missing Glotz and played with no subs, which
clearly hurt them at
times in the game. It was like watching Duke and
Florida, Ceasers had
the talent, but just not enough in the tank. Not to
take anything away
from Guapo, they lived up to the expectations, and got
it done when it
counted. 4-3, and it was as close as the score
indicates.

1. El Guapo- Champions again. Congratulations.

2. Little Caesers- Just a little short, but a valiant
effort in the
finals.

3. Red Wings- Administered a spanking by Ceasers, the
dinosaurs leave
with no championship.

4. Ant Lions- Forfeit in the semifinals,
disappointing. Why even
bother
to get jerseys?

5. B. School- Solid claim to # 5 spot.

6. Outkasts- Where else?

Playoff MVP
Nominees: Cho, Van Hulle, Shand
Winner: Cho, took Guapo on his shoulders in the last
1:30, and carried
them to the cup. Kudos nonetheless to Van Hulle, who
put in two goals
in the finals, and Shand, who continued as floor
general through two
tough games.

Special thanks to Shawn, who did a very good job
running the league
this
year. It's a thankless job, but it shouldn't be, so
let him know next
time you see him.

Plea for next year: Young guys, a lot of the regulars
in the hockey
troop are leaving, it's up to you guys to keep the
league afloat. Grab
those freshman and get them out there, you'd be
surprised by how good
some guys get with just a couple of years of skating
(e.g., Botwick,
Mandel, WinegartenX2). It takes work, but it would be
a shame if the
league disintegrated because of apathy. And help out
the commissioner,
whoever it is.

There's also an opening for the power poll writer,
someone willing to
place far too much time and importance onto our
otherwise mundane
Sunday
meanderings. No application necessary, just write
them next year.

Anyway, it's been a blast.

Signing off,

Anand
